Getting Started
How do I open an account?
You'll create an account, complete identity verification (KYC), and link a funding method. Most applications can be reviewed within one to two business days. See How It Works for the full walkthrough.
What's the minimum amount to get started?
Minimums vary by product: physical bullion has a per-item minimum, while the Gold Savings Plan is designed for smaller recurring amounts.
Do I need investing experience to use Meridian Aurum?
No. Our educational content is written in plain English for first-time investors, and every product page explains who it's typically a fit for.
What documents will I need to open an account?
Typically a government-issued photo ID and proof of address, as part of standard identity verification (KYC).
Can I open an account if I don't live in the US or UK?
We currently serve US and UK users.
Buying & Selling
How is the price I pay determined?
Pricing is based on the live spot price of gold plus a transparent spread and any applicable fees, all shown before you confirm an order. See Pricing & Fees for the full breakdown.
Can I sell my gold back at any time?
Vaulted gold can generally be sold back through your account during market hours. Physical bullion redemption/buy-back processes and timing are covered on the relevant product page.
Is there a guaranteed return on gold?
No. Gold's value can rise or fall, and past price movements don't guarantee future results. Nothing on this site should be read as a promise of profit; see our Risk Disclosure.
Is there a limit to how much I can buy or sell in one order?
Large orders may be subject to additional verification or processed slightly differently than standard orders.
What happens if I place an order and the price moves before it's confirmed?
Quoted prices are typically time-limited; if a quote expires before you confirm, you'll be shown a new price to accept rather than the order silently going through at a stale price.
Storage & Security
How is vaulted gold stored?
Vaulted gold is held on an allocated basis in insured, access-controlled vaults, segregated from the company's own assets. See Security & Vaulting for the full layer-by-layer breakdown.
Is my vaulted gold insured?
Vaulted holdings are covered by insurance arranged through our vault partners. See Security & Vaulting for how that's structured.
What happens to my gold if Meridian Aurum ceases operating?
Allocated, segregated gold is intended to remain your property, separate from company assets, regardless of the company's status. See Security & Vaulting for how segregation works.
Where are the vaults physically located?
Vault locations vary by product and partner, and are disclosed as part of your account once you hold a vaulted position. See Security & Vaulting for how vault partnerships work.
Can I visit or inspect my vaulted gold in person?
Policies on client visits vary by vault operator; see Security & Vaulting for how independent audits work as an alternative to in-person inspection.
Fees
What fees will I actually pay?
Typically: a spread over spot price on each purchase, an ongoing storage fee for vaulted gold, and delivery fees if you choose physical delivery. All fees are itemized on Pricing & Fees with no hidden charges.
Are there fees for selling?
Redemption/sell orders may carry a spread and, for physical bullion, possible processing costs. Exact figures are shown on Pricing & Fees.
Are storage fees charged even if the price of gold falls?
Yes. Storage fees are based on your holding, not on whether it's currently up or down in value; they apply regardless of price direction. See the fee estimator on Pricing & Fees to see this cost isolated from price movement.
Do you charge an account opening or account maintenance fee?
No standalone account fee is planned; revenue comes from spreads, storage, and delivery as itemized on Pricing & Fees.
Taxes & Legal
Will I owe tax on my gold?
Tax treatment depends on your country, account type, and personal circumstances, and can differ significantly between, for example, the US and the UK. This is not tax advice; please consult a licensed tax professional in your jurisdiction.
Is Meridian Aurum regulated?
Regulatory status and registration vary by jurisdiction and product type. See our Risk Disclosure for the current status in each market we serve.
Do the same rules apply in the US and the UK?
No. Tax treatment, and in some cases regulatory status, can differ meaningfully between the US and UK. See our Gold & Retirement product page for one example of how these differences show up in practice.
Can I hold gold through Meridian Aurum inside a retirement account?
See our Gold & Retirement page for an educational overview. Rules vary significantly by country and account type, and we don't currently offer a retirement-account product directly.
